About Automatrics Limited

Automatrics Limited was established in 2006 by Richard Taylor, who identified a significant performance gap in the security tracking markets. The stolen vehicle theft recovery rates were in decline, criminals were defeating existing approved tracking systems due to equipment functionality stagnation. Criminals were clearly exploiting a lack of vehicle security development, providing them with a decreased risk of vehicle theft detection, resulting in a significant growth in vehicle crime.

High-risk vehicles, including valuable cars, scooters, motorcycles, as well as non-registered plant, agricultural, and towed vehicles, clearly required improved security solutions. Thatcham Research’s UK tracking standards did not adequately address these vulnerabilities, leading Richard to introduce a newly developed, multilayered theft-combating technology specifically engineered to resist criminal interference.

Recognising the need for a 24/7 boots-on-the-ground approach to stolen vehicle recovery, Automatrics tailored its services to support the growing number of vehicle theft victims. The company’s flexible and dedicated approach enabled it to respond effectively to evolving theft trends while overcoming criminal anti-tracking tactics, ensuring protection for both individual consumers and businesses against increasingly targeted theft attacks.

Automatrics leveraged multiple location technologies to develop a theft recovery tracking system that was virtually undetectable and resistant to removal. This innovation led to the creation of Automatrics MTrack, the first-ever battery-powered tracker to be Thatcham-certified for insurance use. With no visible wires or antennas, the device could locate vehicles hidden from GPS signals by combining secret radio frequency beaconing, mobile cell location, and GPS technology within a small, resilient enclosure.

Thanks to this pioneering technology, Automatrics became the first company to offer insurance-approved vehicle tracking systems directly to end users, allowing authorised owners to perform a covert self-installation virtually anywhere in any vehicle. The company continues to set industry-leading theft recovery performance standards and remains proactive in advancing security solutions.

Automatrics’ system performance has been widely recognised, with real-world operational video footage showcasing its capabilities on YouTube. This “seeing is believing” approach to marketing has resonated with customers, and the Automatrics MTrack YouTube channel has gained significant popularity, earning the company the YouTube Silver Award for surpassing 100,000 subscribers.

Systems are certified Police Preferred “Secured By Design” (SBD) and have received prestigious innovation and support awards from both the Combined Industry Theft Solutions (CITS) group and the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI).

Due to consistent, reliable, and successful tracking capabilities, Automatrics has been selected to conduct undercover operational tracking projects with major media organisations, including Greenpeace, Watchdog, Which?, Panorama, and Channel 5. More recently, the company has been filming with the BBC for a new theft-tracking series, featuring in over 12 episodes.

Expanding into Fleet & OBD Tracking

In 2024, Automatrics responded to customer demand by introducing 4G fleet tracking and OBD tracking products, integrating them into its cloud-based tracking platform. Previously, these highly competitive markets were excluded from the company’s portfolio, as they were cost-sensitive services that did not align with Automatrics’ gold-standard service offerings.

Following an international visit to high-quality, low-cost fleet tracking product suppliers, Automatrics was encouraged by their willingness to adapt to additional customer feature expectations. After making necessary refinements, the company soon received its first test kits for the Automatrics OBD and Fleet 4G trackers.

The devices were successfully integrated into the Automatrics tracking platform using the company’s preferred SIM to conduct extensive field trials. Following successful testing, Automatrics placed its first 1,000-unit order, marking a new milestone in its expanding product range.
