We had a call at lunchtime yesterday from a customer reporting their hired Bomag 80 roller had been stolen from a construction site in the Barnstaple area. It seems to have been taken sometime between 11am and 5pm on Friday.
We activated the MTrack straight away, confirming the signal at 2:30pm. It picked up a cell site and background GPS around Crumlin, South Wales.
After a lot of coordination at the office with Gwent police and the customer, we got moving on the road at 3pm, to arrive on site at about 6:30pm
The RF signal led us behind an electrical generator yard, with a makeshift wooden gate blocking access. With the police on hand, we went in through nearby woodland and over some fencing, where we found the Bomag 80 machine.
The Battery was dead, but luckily the recovery driver came prepared and got it started. All the company’s decals had been removed. The Police rang a number from nearby machines to track down the yard operator, who claimed he’d bought it for £5k. – Police are continuing some inquiries.
Good result and solid teamwork from everyone involved – Gwent police specifically.
